Recently, I had the pleasure of shooting a beautiful wedding at The Granary Estates. Found in the charming village of Woodditton just outside Newmarket, this venue is absolutely stunning and provided the perfect backdrop for the day’s events. I love shooting here. I was second shooting for fellow photographer Adrian Dewey who had great visions for the day ahead.
One of the best parts about shooting at The Granary Estates is the wedding party having access to the cottages. This makes bridal prep photos super easy. The pub down the road normally looks after the groomsman. Hey I don’t make the rues!
Intimate Indoor Ceremony
The ceremony took place indoors, which can often be a challenge for photographers. However, the Granary Estates had plenty of natural light streaming in through the windows, creating a soft and ethereal ambiance. I made sure to capture the couple’s emotional reactions as they walked back down the aside. Being second shooter on this one means my job is at the back of the ceremony. Capturing guest reactions and the married couples as they walk back town the aisle.
After the ceremony, the guests enjoyed a drink reception on the lawn outside. I always find that this is a great opportunity to capture candid shots of the guests mingling and having fun. The warm sunlight was perfect for capturing the happy and relaxed atmosphere. Every wedding is different but the drinks reception or cocktail hour always provide a wealth of photo opportunities.
One of the highlights of the day was the speeches. The groom’s speech in particular was incredibly emotional and heartfelt. I made sure to capture the reactions of the guests as they listened, with many of them wiping away tears of joy and belly laughs.
The Granary Estates at dusk
As the sun began to set, we took a walk around the estate for some gorgeous early evening photos. The warm golden light was simply stunning and created a beautiful contrast with the lush greenery of the estate. We even managed to find a picturesque pond, which made for some lovely photos. The swings always provide a great talking point as to who pushes who. The Swing at the top by the cottages is a great spot during golden hour. It backs on to open fields and high skies, perfect.
We had a sparkler send off which always scares the hell out of me. 80 people that have been plied with alcohol, holding fireworks, as I walk backwards , in the dark. Totally a good idea. All jokes aside I do love sparkler shots its just the organising them that’s hard.
Overall, it was an incredibly fun and happy day filled with love and laughter. The Granary Estates provided the perfect setting and I feel honored to have been a part of such a special occasion.
