Hey there, party people! Rain on wedding day? Well it won’t stop this train. Buckle up for this one, as I share Adam and Georgia’s rain-soaked but ridiculously fun wedding at The Old Hall Ely. Who needs a dry wedding, right? With help from the Bride , I’ll be sharing some tips on what to do with rain on your wedding day.
1: Rain, Rain, Go Away (Nah, Stay – We Don’t Care!)
Let’s be real – If there is rain on your wedding day , it is going to be the ultimate test of your relationship, or at least test your patience. But Adam and Georgia handled it like bosses! They rocked those raindrops like they were confetti from the heavens. So, repeat after me: “Rain, rain, go away… but if you wanna stay, we’re gonna slay!”
2: Umbrellas galore
Who needs a traditional confetti shot when you can have a parade of umbrellas? Adam and Georgia’s guests made sure they had their rain gear game on point. Bright coloured brollies added a splash of colour to the grey skies. Plus it matched the bright confetti, so totally fashion forward darlings!
3: Rain on your wedding? Go Dance in the rain
When life hands you rain, put on your dancing shoes and boogie your heart out! Adam and Georgia threw caution to the wind and danced their way into marital bliss. They danced down the aisle hand in hand and continued dancing when we made it back to their venue, The old Hall Ely. If you don’t mind getting wet then embrace it. You only get this day once.
4: Plan B, Be Like Water – Flexible AF
Okay, so Plan A might’ve been a sunny day, but when life throws a curveball, be like water – fluid and flexible! The crew at The Old Hall Ely rolled with the punches, and Adam and Georgia just went with the flow (literally!). The result? An unforgettable wedding with so much laughter no one even cared it was raining. We actually god some pretty epic group shots using the indoor spaces, plus no one could wander off.
5: Its lucky to have rain on you wedding day
A wet knot is harder to untie. Just a simple fact here people.
If you don’t believe me, Georgia has kindly shared her views on rain on your wedding day.
2.5 years ago we chose the 14th of July to get married. 14th because Zac Efron’s jersey was 14 and ever ssince then it was my lucky number. We chose July because my parents got married in that month and we were getting married at the same church they did. We also picked July because we wanted the best chance for good weather (little did we know).
14.7.23 started sunny but by the time I left the old hall to go to the church, it was tipping it down. For those who know me, the next sentence is shocking: I was calm, the weather was the only part of the day. I couldn’t (and didn’t hahaha) control it , and yet, it didn’t matter.
We have been together for 9 years this year. As a couple we have been through a lot together and we are a team. Only thing that truly mattered was we got to marry each other in front of those we loved. Family is everything to us, and looking around the room to see everyone there, was the most magical feeling.
Did the rain ruin the day?
A lot of people have asked me if the rain ruined the wedding. The truth is, if I could have controlled the weather that day (looking back), I would have asked for it to rain. The rain kept everyone together (something we really wanted), it made every one of our photos so much more magical (due to the sheer skills of our photographer). Our photos have umbrellas, laugher & reflections in puddles. They are beautiful and everything we had ever wanted. And it meant we got every photo we had on the list (and my list was extensive) because it was easy to grab people and move loads of people at once because we were inside.
For anyone worried it might rain
I recommend getting some cute umbrellas but other than that jsut let it happen. Every plan was made in the moment and I’m so glad it was. We were so filled with love that no decision was made in annoyance about the weather. We just chose to embrace it. Having waited a long time to be married, and we only plan on doing it once. Unlike other events you can’t just cancel and reschedule because the weather wasn’t as planned. So we chose to dance in the rain because what else could we do? Choosing to still have photos outside, because that’s what we envisioned, and our photographer kindly got wet with us. Don’t change your photo list or your plans because of the weather, still have everything you dreamed because you can and we did.
Just go for it
As for the confetti shot in the rain the photos that came from that part of the day, are some of my favourite ones from our wedding. I was worried wet, pink confetti would stain my dress but it didn’t and the umbrella almost created an arch that was so amazing for the photos. Honestly my only advice is to just go for it. No matter what. It’s not something you can control but you can control your reaction to it, and honestly you have waited a long time for your moment so enjoy it no matter what.
I also recommend having incredible photographers and videographers that are willing to get wet with you (Sarah & Josh were incredible and we could never thank them enough). But also Amazing hair and make up team so you look lasts as long as possible (hairbyhannah & Oleta Scott). But also if your hair comes out and you have no make up left on and your dress is muddy who cares if you enjoyed yourself, that’s all that matters.
It’s about how you feel on that day not how you look.
Every single photo we have we are laughing or smiling and that’s what all it’s really about. Everyone who has seen our photos has said how they capture the happiness and the love on the day. That’s what getting married is about being together and celebrating love (as cringy as that sounds).
In summary, If there is rain on your wedding day…
1. Don’t try and control what you can’t.
2. Get amazing photographers and videographers that will do whatever you need of them.
3. Chose suppliers who will uplift and bring joy to your day.
4. Don’t worry if your hair falls out and your dress is muddy that’s what it’s about. You’re not supposed to be perfect.
5. Embrace whatever the day throws at you. If it rains, well, go dance in it!
