I was going to start this one with tips for planning a wedding in 2024, but I’ll save that for a later date. So instead we are going to talk all things dance floor, If there’s one place at a wedding where magic happens, it’s the dance floor.
I have a front-row seat to all the incredible moments that unfold on this hallowed ground. But it’s not just about the photos I love, it’s about the joy, energy, and emotions that make the dance floor the beating heart of of a wedding celebration. So in true content creator style vibes , here are my 7 reasons why I absolutely adore the dance floor from a wedding photographer’s perspective.

1. Electric Vibes and Unfiltered Emotions
I’m no stranger to capturing candid moments, in fact that’s kinda my thing. But there’s something about the dance floor that takes emotions to a whole new level. It’s where the bride and groom, surrounded by their closest friends and family, let loose and express their love, happiness, and excitement without inhibition. Sometimes, ( OK most of the time, who am I kidding) fuelled by a cocktail of cocktails, my couples and their guests, let loose.
I’ve seen tear-filled eyes during a heartfelt slow dance, uncontrollable laughter during a surprise dance-off, and genuine hugs shared between long-lost friends. On the dance floor, emotions flow freely, and I’m there to capture it all.
2. Expressions in Every Move
Every dance is a story in motion, however good or bad you may be at it. It’s a treasure trove of photographic opportunities some great, some questionable. But thats what makes the dance floor magic. Catching a groomsman mid way through a robot dance off or a rendition of Beyoncé’s single ladies is priceless. The facial expressions are always better than the dance moves.
3. Unpredictable Moments and Surprises
If you are planning a wedding in 2024, I’m not saying you have to have a dance routine planned but…could you have a dance routine planned out? Ok I’m only Joking. The dance floor is a place where surprises are born. I’ve seen brides and grooms break into impromptu and choreographed routines, grandparents surprising everyone with their dance skills, and children stealing the show with their adorable moves. You never know what’s going to happen, and that element of surprise keeps me on my toes (literally and figuratively).
4. A Burst of Color and Light
From the vibrant dresses of the bridesmaids to the disco lights, the dance floor is a kaleidoscope of colors. It’s a visual feast for a wedding photographer. The mix of dynamic lighting, creative decor, and energetic dancers creates a stunning backdrop that makes every photo pop. Plus it gives me a chance to play with lights that I don’t get to play with during the day. It is more of a challenge and honestly that is what keeps pushing me. I always want to try new things.
5. The Dance Floor Chronicles
The dance floor is where friendships are celebrated, relationships are rekindled, and new bonds are formed. Have you ever met someone at a party and before you know it your best friends planning your next adventure? There are so many relationships and stories forming on the dance floor. They need documenting, even if it’s only for black mail later on!

6. Endless Opportunities for Creativity
As a wedding photographer, I thrive on creativity, and the dance floor is my playground. The fast-paced movements, dramatic lighting, and high energy of the dance floor give me the chance to experiment with angles, shutter speeds, and composition. It’s where I can let my creative juices flow and capture truly unique shots. I mean you can’t stage what happens on the dance floor.
7. The Final Flourish
The dance floor is the grand finale of the wedding day. It’s the culmination of months of planning, anticipation, and emotion. The dance floor represents the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. The final ‘We did it’ moments caught on camera are priceless. Planning a wedding in 2024? One of my biggest tips has to be have a pre wedding play list evening. Cook dinner, grab a bottle of wine and run through Spotify. Find your old school favourites, the songs from when you met, songs you used to go dancing to, songs you grew up with, guilty pleasures and everything in between. It’s a music filled date night. You’re welcome.
