Kinmount House is a beautiful 19th Century Mansion located in Dumfries and Galloway. It is a perfect wedding venue and one I have been looking forward to photograph for a long time. Lucky for me I was able to get there before the end of the year, for a stunning winter wedding. With frost and ice crunching under foot and a blanket of white glistening as far as the eye could see, it was breath taking.
Situated in the privacy of 1,000 acres of historic parkland, Kinmount House has proved to the perfect wedding venue for civil ceremonies, blessings and receptions.
Humanist Ceremony
Laura and Lloyd had their Humanist ceremony lead by the fabulous Lindsey Mason Ross, inside the Grand Ballroom. The -9 temperatures put a stop to outside ceremonies that weekend! Kinmount House offers a few locations for wedding ceremonies so plenty of choice for couples looking to get married there whatever size wedding you have. The Grand Ballroom was the perfect size for their wedding party. The flowers were supplied by Jess at Mabels Yard, and wow, were they show stopping. The drinks reception was held in front of a log fire and we pretended we were in the Bahamas whilst we ran outside for photos. Honestly, I’ve been cold but this was cold cold.
Kinmount House Winter Wedding
Winter weddings are some of my favorite to photograph! The changing of the seasons often brings with it, a beautiful and unique set of colors, textures, and moods. The cozy atmosphere of a winter wedding is often filled with joy and warmth, which makes capturing the special moments that much more enjoyable. The winter months also provide some amazing natural light for your photos. Short days mean a lot of beautiful golden hour light, which creates a stunning backdrop for your wedding photos. Add in the snow, and suddenly you are through the wardrobe and in your own wonderful world of Narnia.
Winter weddings also bring with them a unique style of decor. From sparkling snowflakes to festive colours, lights and of course the odd Christmas tree. Kinmount House did not disappoint, with the biggest tree I’ve seen all year, and roaring log fires in every room. Winter weddings offer so many opportunities for creative styling. It doesn’t have to be Christmas themed. I love how it creates a special atmosphere and can really help to create a unique look for your photos.
Sparkler Send Off
We had a golf buggy filled with blankets and went for a trip round the lake on a photo tour. The Swing, the boat house, the bath house and finally back round to the house. We had sparklers, singing and a saxophonist. The wedding party partied long into the night.
The team at Kinmount House were absolutely incredible. Battling with the coldest weather for that time of year (think frozen pipes and old buildings) they still managed to pull off the most spectacular wedding. I can not wait t be back there!
