Last week I finally got some Updated Headshots. Who knew getting fresh ones could be the game-changer you never knew you needed for your personal brand. I had the pleasure of swapping talents with the incredible Gina Fernandes Photography, and let me tell you, it was more than just a photoshoot – it was like we bunked off school for the day.
FIRST THINGS FIRST, WHY SHOULD YOU BOTHER WITH UPDATING YOUR HEADSHOTS?
Well, let me paint you a picture. Imagine logging in to Linkedin, 6 years after you first created a profile. You haven’t been on there since and what greets you is an outdated , cringe worthy photo of someone you don’t even recognise any more. That was me. It was fraudulent at best. Who even is this person?
Once the shock wore off, it was time to suck it up and get some updated images that actually look like me, fine lines included.

WHY HEADSHOTS ARE IMPORTANT
1. First Impressions are Everything: What’s the first thing that catches your eye on someones Social media? You got it, the profile picture. A fresh, high-quality headshot instantly communicates professionalism and attention to detail. It’s like a virtual handshake, and you want to make sure it’s firm and friendly.
2. PERSONAL BRANDING POWERHOUSE:
Your personal brand is more than just a logo or a catchy tagline; it’s about showcasing your personality, values, and unique style. A set of well-crafted headshots does just that. They tell a visual story about who you are and what you bring to the table. It’s like having your own personal PR campaign, and who wouldn’t want to shine a spotlight on their awesomeness? If your headshots are stiff and outdated you’re probably not going to attract the ideal client you are looking for.
3. Confidence Boost: Hell knows I needed this. Fresh headshots capture you at your best, highlighting your strengths and building your confidence. Trust me, strutting around Stamford with Gina, camera in hand, had me feeling like a superstar – and everyone deserves a taste of that!
We decided to trade services, and it turned into a day of laughter, wedding talks, and, of course, some fantastic shots.
Trading Talents with Gina Fernandes at Fern and Flare
Gina and I, both passionate wedding photographers, found a mutual appreciation for each other’s work. So, we decided to mix business with pleasure and traded services for updated headshots. What followed was a day filled with creativity, childlike giggling, and endless conversations about all things weddings. Stamford was a great choice, we explored its streets, seeking the perfect backdrops to tell our individual stories.
Coffee, Cake, and World-Righting: Amidst the photoshoot, Gina and I took a little detour to refuel our creative souls – coffee and cake. It can be a lonely place being a self employed creative. We don’t get work nights out, we don’t have people to take our lunch break with, no conference room or coffee break gossip. So a little day off with like minded people should be compulsory. Just to stop you going crazy.
Gina is a Fabulos wedding photographer, Podcast creator and she now has another string to her bow. Her branding photography Fern and Flare. You can find out all you need to know here and you get to see my mugshot too, you lucky devils. https://www.instagram.com/fern_and_flare/
