With Covid-19 lingering longer than we all thought, the micro wedding seems like it is here to stay and that’s not a bad thing. It’s given couples the freedom to choose a smaller, intimate celebration without the pressure and guilt that can sometimes be piled on when wedding planning. I have no doubt that large weddings will return (beyond excited for that day) but I think, even when the last of restrictions have been lifted, we will still have the micro wedding.
Stu and Helen planned their wedding in Brighton and as a wedding photographer based in Lincolnshire I was excited to get back to the coast again.
Brighton Town Hall provided an elegant backdrop for the wedding ceremony with its high ceilings and natural light. It was a little odd at first being one of only 6 people, wearing a mask and not being able to move, but that didn’t take away any of the magic. It was still a beautiful ceremony and after a few moments you forget the restrictions are even there. No confetti but we had plenty of distractions from well wishers passing by and friends that came to watch from a distance.
The walk through the deserted lanes was a stark contrast from the usual hive of activity that the city of Brighton provides for its visitors. This did mean we could make various stops along the way with out breaking the 2m rule. Perfect walk for a Brighton wedding.
The Royal Pavilion is a must for a wedding photographer, if you get the chance to have the Iconic Brighton landmark in a shot you should take it, so we did. Covid-19 made sure we couldn’t go inside but the outside was all we needed for a bit of Regency glamour.
The Ivy in the Lanes was the destination for the reception, re-joining the family in the privately hired Tidal Room. With its eclectic mix of vintage furniture and modern art work reflecting scenes from Brighton’s fishing heritage, it was a perfect venue. The wedding party were able to have a great day even with limits on what they could and couldn’t do, proving that covid secure weddings are still pretty awesome.
When weddings return after this lockdown, I will be just as excited for the micro wedding as I always am for the big ones.
