London at dusk makes my heart feel full. It’s the light, the people, the nostalgia. I was born in London and remain very fond of the city. The River always seems to call to me. Never more so than early mornings and early evenings. Around St Paul’s Cathedral, the light softens, the crowds fall away, and the city settles into something quieter. This London engagement shoot was built around that shift, an editorial, candid approach designed for my couple who care less about perfect and more about feeling something real.

St Paul’s is one of those locations that doesn’t need much from you. Apart from a licence to shoot there, if you want to stay the right side of the law. You can find out all the information here. But there are places around where you don’t need one. Millennium bridge is a good place to start.

For this engagement shoot the focus wasn’t on using the London as a landmark. It was about letting it frame the experience. We wanted to just enjoy being in the city. Moving through the space, letting moments happen, and allowing the environment to shape the mood naturally. Apart from nearly being mowed down by a scooter it was pretty chilled. Even my train arrived early which never happens.
Why Dusk Changes Everything
Timing matters. Dusk in London gives you something you don’t get at any other point in the day. The light drops, shadows stretch, and everything becomes more atmospheric.
This is where the shift happens, away from bright, polished imagery and into something more personal and somewhat intimate. Slightly darker, less refined, more in line with fashion than traditional engagement photography with someone down on one knee.

I have heard ‘The experience’ and ‘Wedding weekend’ more in the last 6 months that ever before. People are planning based around an immersive experience for their guests, and, ultimately themselves.
It’s less about creating something polished for the sake of it, and more about the experience itself. Being in the city, at that time of day, with space to just exist in it. The photos come from that, not the other way around.
