Some weddings are beautiful. Others are iconic. Sophie and Stewart’s Burghley House wedding was the latter. Effortless, stylish, and steeped in history, set against one of England’s most extraordinary stately homes. A favourite venue of mine as, it’s on my doorstep.
With the hottest day of the year as their backdrop a soaring 40°C , they embraced the warmth, keeping the day refined and undeniably cool. Unlike me who was already sweating by 10am.
Tucked away in the Burghley Estate, The Dairy Farm was the perfect setting for a morning of bridal preparations. Sophie and her bridal party had hair and make up done in the soft morning light, surrounded by the calm of the countryside. The atmosphere was relaxed with a bubbling undertone of excitement.
Then, a statement entrance, Rolls Royce delivering Sophie to one of the most breathtaking ceremony spaces in England. I may be bias but it really is stunning.
Burghley’s Great Hall is nothing short of magnificent. Soaring ceilings, centuries old tapestries, and an atmosphere that feels both regal and intimate. A space originally designed for banqueting that is now home to love stories.
Even in a room like this, Sophie stole the moment, rightly so. As she walked down the aisle, framed by light, the grandeur of the setting melted away leaving just the two of them. Eyes locked, in a moment that felt both cinematic and deeply personal. They didn’t stop smiling.
While guests enjoyed a champagne reception on the manicured South Lawn, Sophie and Stewart stepped into Burghley’s most extraordinary spaces for portraits that felt like works of art.
First, The Heaven Room a masterpiece of 17th-century frescoes. The kind of space where history meets high fashion.
Then, for contrast, The Hell Staircase. Bold, dramatic, and my favourite part of the house. A setting that demands presence. Sophie and Stewart stood out against the rich intensity of the artwork. A modern love story woven into Burghley’s historic canvas. I can’t help but think of all the people who have walked these stairs and felt the same feelings of awe that I still have every time I shoot here.
As the sun softened, ( the heat was still pretty intense) the party unfolded in The Orangery, a space where classic architecture meets contemporary and functional design. Perfect for summer weddings. The drinks flowed, the laughter carried through the sticky evening air.
The heat of the day gave way to the night, and the dance floor came alive. I enjoy the dance floor at weddings way more than I probably should. Such a great opportunity to get some truly unfiltered and raw images. Plus the odd dance off makes for good entertainment.
Sophie and Stewart’s day was a masterclass in understated luxury—iconic without trying too hard, effortlessly stylish, and deeply authentic.
The team at Burghley House are undeniably brilliant. They run a tight ship and nothing is left to chance. A suppliers favourite, not only for the venue but for the incredible team that make working there an absolute dream.
