Being a Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire wedding photographer, means I frequently get to work at Venues like Holmewood Hall. This is always a pleasure and Beth and Vincent’s wedding was no different. Fun and informal with traditional aspects from Eastern and Western culture.
True to form, April decided to be the month it always threatens to be …It rained. Pretty much most of the month. It was either dark and gloomy like someone had turned off the lights, or it was drizzling and windy. Not ideal weather for weddings, but when has that ever stopped us Brits? Rain or shine we plod on.
So you can imagine my delight when I look out the window to find a not so gloomy day and what looked to be a bit of sunshine trying to break through. Yes its going to be a good day.
Number one guest hunter
Bethany and Vincent’s wedding was held at the beautiful Holmewood Hall. Like I said, it’s a regular venue for me and only just down the road, so I was off to a good start. Plus, I was second shooting for the day, which means I get to work with my friend and fellow photographer Weddings by Adrian Dewey (who is also a Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire wedding photographer). I get to rally the troops for group shots and run round looking for lost people trapped at the bar (this happens a lot with bars, you can be standing near one and suddenly you are sucked in. Before you know it, you are tapping your card for 2 Espresso Martinis, a bottle of Prosecco and a whiskey chaser). I am the number one guest locator. Also, I get to be chief dress sorter…move over bridesmaids I got this. My floofing skills are second to none.
Back to the wedding, the venue was looking beautiful, and the bridesmaids and groomsmen preparations were in full swing. The groomsmen had a delightful collection of cufflinks. Among the collection were Ironman and Hulk so you get the idea. Sometimes groomsmen just don’t want to adult ,and I am all for that. They did look pretty cool with the groom’s red suit. At one point he did have a collection of dinosaur stickers on his suit, discreetly placed by a groomsman, but thankfully they had disappeared by the time the ceremony started. I still have no idea why.
Flower Dude
As always, the light in the Gold Room was perfect. It’s 18-carat gold leaf ceiling seems to shimmer in the sunlight. Even on an overcast day (which it was slowly turning into) it is a beautiful room to photograph. The ceremony opened with the hottest trend right now…No not dresses with sleeves and Bridgerton styling. An even hotter trend. The flower dude. Yes, that guy. The one that comes in showering you in petals or confetti. My husband is flower dude next month for his Uncle’s wedding, and honestly I think he more excited for that than our wedding. Figures!
After the ceremony and group shots we had walk through the grounds finishing by the lake. But instead of just walking (so overrated), Beth had a piggy back and ended up on the floor. Like an absolute pro she rocked it out, completely unfazed. You see, these gorgeous humans, came to play. They came to get married and have the best time. Which they did with every fibre of their being. I have seen brides throw a full on bridezilla tantrum for having their dress stood on, and that can be a mood killer. Laughing off every moment that doesn’t go to plan will insure your wedding day is a joyous occasion. It also makes for great photos, and I love that.
Sunset walk
We snuck into the library at Holmewood Hall to get some down time before the party really kicked off. It was a real moment of calm. A chance for Beth and Vincent to completely absorb each other’s company, away from the excitement of the guests. I strongly suggest to all my couples that they allocate some time to sneak off in the evening. Even if it is for 10mins. Sunset is a great time for a little walk and another opportunity to reunite away from the crowd. Again, for me this is perfect for photos. Being a Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire based wedding photographer means I get to work at some beautiful venues, and Holmewood Hall is no exception, especially at sunset.
After the first dance and a faulty confetti canon that refused to work, the wedding guests descended to the dance floor to continue the celebrations. Once we had a few shots of some dancing (I use that term lightly, some people) it was time to head home. I have since been informed that we missed a striptease from the groom and the flower dude, but I am not sure what I would have done with those images, so maybe that was for the best!
